DIY Spooky Halloween Village

Good Morning friends!  Thanks for stopping by.  Are you ready for some more spooky fun?!  If you can’t tell, I love Halloween!  I can’t.get.enough.

In case you missed it, check out my “Fall-O-Ween Home Tour” that I shared yesterday.

This project was inspired when these little beauties caught my eye at the local Salvation Army.

Village Before

Does anyone else get REALLY excited when they pull into the parking lot of a thrift store?!  Let the hunt begin!

Let me get this straight … YES, I know there’s snow on these houses.  In Michigan, you never know, you just MIGHT have snow on Halloween.  My justification, right?! Ha

Next, I grabbed some spray paint.  I wanted a mix of gray and black.  Oh yah.

Village Spray

I gave them a quick spray! (Lesson learned, DON’T spray paint on plastic when it’s windy out — DOH)

Village Sprayed

Next, I grabbed some Halloween rings from the Dollar Tree and glue dots!

Village Material

I cut the circle/ring portion off of the ring and used the glue dot to stick the insects to the houses.  Supa cute!

Now, getting pictures here and of this whole village was a challenge.  I prefer using natural light when taking photos and the weather was NOT on my side.  There was NO light for me to use the last couple days … Boooo.  So please, bare with me on this one!

Village Final 6

I added a spooky black tree and back lanterns from the Dollar section at Target for some fun.Village final 1

I also included some fun Dollar Tree figurines.

How adorable is THAT skeleton gazebo?!  A DOLLAR?!

  1. I love this idea! I’ve seen these villages made-over for Christmas (because the original colours: yikes!), but not for Halloween. And yes: I feel that way when I pull into the thrift store parking lot. It is like the mothership is calling me home.

  2. Sara, I saw your spooky houses this morning before I had a chance to comment and actually ran out to my local thrift shop to see if they have any houses I could spray paint:). Sadly, they didn’t have any but I plan on making a few more trips. For the record we have had snow on Halloween here in PA so the snow on your houses totally works:). Take care, Tara
