And BAM! There. She. Is.
Right there is a lot of brainstorming, sweat, hard work, cleaning and patience! We did it babe. [High Five]
Aaron and I always wanted to update our kitchen. We spend SO much time in there, why not? After I painted our kitchen cabinets and he came home from a work trip in Texas he said, “I love it. We are re-doing it ALL.” Really? That’s all I needed to do?
Before we dig in more, feel free to catch up on the journey….
DIY Industrial Paper Towel Holder
Here SHE is. The “Before.”
Our maple cabinets were in excellent condition, just didn’t want maple. I’ve never been a fan of our black floor. The hubs convinced me to decide on that last. “Let’s do the whole kitchen and if you still don’t care for the floor, we will replace it.” Okay, cool, I can work with that. There’s nothing wrong with it and it’s durable….. We are keeping it!
My mother and I painted the cabinets. Lots of work. Well worth it.
Electrician came in. Did some light removal and adding. He installed under cabinet lighting. Such a great feature. What a difference, peeps!
Counters, dishwasher and sink came OUT. We we ready for GRANITE. The hubs and I have dreamed of this day ….
We bought a new microwave because we figured it would be better to get that now with the back splash going in. We said “we can buy the rest later.” Well, we had all new appliances later that week!
Granite installed. Sink and faucet installed. Reverse osmosis updated! I searched and searched for a faucet. We fell in love with this one and do NOT regret our purchase. One review, in particular, on Amazon sold my hubby, “Great faucet. You will not be sorry you made this purchase. Your love life will improve when your wife sees it!” Too funny. If you’re interested, it’s HERE.
Crown molding added to pull everything together.
Paint. Oh, sweet paint. I had 6 or so samples on the wall. I was looking for a blue-ish color. No green. It’s hard to find that. Plus, blue is out of my element. I love brown and neutrals. We went with “Sea Salt” by Sherwin Williams. I’m. In. LOVE.
Finally, back splash. I wanted white subway title. Classic and timeless. We pulled from the gray in granite and used gray grout. I couldn’t be more pleased. PLUS, I heard many horror stories about staining on white grout. Yikes. That would NOT work well with my OCD.
I’m so happy with our remodel. What’s your favorite part?
Love it? Pin it!
I love it sooo much!! Looks so great! I love the backsplash! Great job :).
Thank you, April!
I love, love it all! Its how much the “little” things like crown molding and extra can lighting can totally chance a space! Congratulations on all your hard work!!

This is a stunning transformation! I redid my kitchen as well. I also had Maple cabinets- like new, but I dreamed of white so I painted them. Redoing a kitchen is a lot of work, but as your results show, so well worth it!
Thanks Michele! Painting the cabinets IS a lot of work. Like you said tho, worth it! Thanks for reading.

The pictures look great! This is the direction I would like to go in our kitchen redo. I was considering painting our awful oak cabinets with Annie Sloan Old
White. Would you mind sharing your process of painting them?
Hi Julie! Yes, painting the oak will make a HUGE difference! Please visit: http://shabbygraceblog.com/my-shabby-cabs/ for how I painted our cabinets! If you have further questions, please e-mail me shabbygraceblog@gmail.com
Hi- I love your kitchen and found you from a google search on Annie Sloan paint reviews. Can you tell me what the name of your granite is?
Hi Kaitlyn, I’m glad you stumbled upon my blog! Our granite is called Delicatus Ice. We LOVE it and get lots of compliments on it. I’ve never seen it in anyone else’s home.
Your kitchen is absolutely beautiful! You really did transform the look from a builder type kitchen to a much coveted kitchen. I love it all but especially that granite.
Thank you again!! You’re being way too king. I LOVE LOVE our granite!
What’s my favorite part? I can’t even choose! It’s all so beautiful! We are about to embark on our own kitchen reno, and I’m a bit apprehensive about it since my husband hasn’t completely been on board the entire time. Only recently have I seen some excitement from him. Oh well, I hope it turns out as well as yours has! Just beautiful!!
Thanks Iris! Redoing the kitchen is full of all kinds of emotions! The end result makes it all worth it. You guys have a great taste and I know yours will turn out amazing!
What a fresh update to your kitchen!!! You did such a great job with color selection – everything from the cabinets to the grout color to the walls is perfect!! Love, love, love.
Thanks Caroline! I can’t believe how much brighter it is in here! Thanks for stopping by!
Your kitchen looks fantastic. We just finish ours and painted over knotty pine, you can imagine the problems.
Thank you Betty! Oh wow, it’s no easy task, that’s for sure!
Oh wow…I have total kitchen envy right now. I love every single thing about your kitchen! I painted my cabinets as well (a very similar color)…now I want to do all those other things too! It’s beautiful!
Oh Jessica, I’m blushing!! Thank you so much. Those cabinet jobs are a lot of work, eh?
What color did you paint the cabinets? It looks like a creamy off white. It its a beautiful redo.
Thank you so much Sandy. It’s Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint, Old White. There’s a “pure white” and “old white,” old white is more creamy.
Could you tell me what paint you used for your cabinets? Also, what process you used to paint them. I’m doing mine this spring and can’t wait!!!
Hi Cindy. Please check out my post on how I painted my cabinets: http://shabbygraceblog.com/my-shabby-cabs/ If you have any other questions, please let me know! I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint – Old White. I’m so excited for you paint them!!!
did you paint with the cabinet doors on?
Yes I did! So much easier and looks great. If you take them off, be sure to mark which door goes where because some won’t fit in other spots and you don’t want to create a mess. Our hinge hardware is on the inside of our cabinet and I painted over everything!
Did you have to prime the cabinets?
Hi Lynn, no I did not. With Chalk Paint you don’t have to prime! That’s the beauty!
Love your kitchen! Is your fridge counter depth because it hardly sticks out at all! I’m trying to find one with great features but that isn’t too deep. Thanks!
Hi Amy! Thank you! Yes, it’s counter depth, it’s a Samsung and we love it!
