Hey guys! I’m slowly making it through and sharing all our new rooms. It’s been one crazy journey over here. Today, I’m super excited to share our new living room. Why? Well, I think out of all the rooms we recently made over, this was has been pretty dramatic! If you’re new here, we tore down our huge fireplace in between our living and dining room. Yup. Gone. Hello, openness!

I also want to note, that yes my style has changed and is definitely more simple, but this room isn’t complete. I need a couple more items but I don’t like to rush. I’ll find them as they present themselves!
Let’s take a look at a few before shots of this room.
BEFORE
Here’s the room at Christmas last year. See the fireplace?
Yup, that’s been removed.
AFTER
You guys! I’m still thrilled about this fireplace change. What a difference, eh? More light coming in between the room and I could actually arrange our furniture in a functional way.
BEFORE
After the fireplace was removed, the walls were painted in Sherwin-William’s Repose Gray. We love using their paint, as our whole house is painted with Sherwin-Williams! Their colors are beautiful and their paint is top notch in quality. After the paint was finished, board and batten was added to the walls. We only added it to two of the walls because I felt that adding it to the stair wall would be too much.
Here’s the room, again, at Christmas last year.
The television has been moved to the stair wall. It was there when we first moved in and I’m glad it’s back there. I didn’t want the TV to be the focal point of the room. It’s now on a swivel wall holder where we can push it back against the wall when it’s not in use and pull it out when we want to watch it.
AFTER
Our contractor built our TV unit out of reclaimed barn wood. It’s quite lovely!
Hello chippy goodness!
Although my farmhouse style is slowly fading out, I still want to keep a couple chippy pieces throughout the house. Our barn-wood shelf in the kitchen goes well with this piece.
By adding the coffee table in the middle, I didn’t feel a need to have end tables. I filled those two spots with these amazing Windsor White Wash Candlestick Floor Lamp from Lampsplus!
Look at these babies!!!!! They make such a statement and have the perfect white wash and distressed finish. Everyone compliments us on our lamps. They help anchor and balance the room.
Lampsplus has so many great options when it comes to lighting. Be sure to check out all their Traditional Floor Lamps.
Our furniture is from Crate and Barrel. We are in LOVE. The couch is slipcovered (heck yah) and called the Willow. The leather chairs are swivel (so glad we got these) and called the Davis chair. The leather resembles driftwood and is called mushroom. It’s real light and beachy. I think it’s a great contrast with the white couch. (**You can shop this post at the end of the post**)
I reallllly wanted to create a conversation area with our furniture. Now with the dining room open to the living room, these swivel chairs work perfectly. If someone is seated in the one closet to the kitchen, they can participate in a conversation in the living room, watch TV or move around and face the kitchen.
Initially, we purchased a coffee table from Target. The color was too off from the leather chairs so we returned it. We then found this Dixon coffee table from Crate and Barrel. We love it! The black bottom ties in with the black stair rail and barn light. The top is made of reclaimed wood. It couldn’t be more perfect.
Once the fireplace was removed, we had the hardwood floors laced into the original hardwoods and refinished to match. We thought we had enough of the black kitchen floor but it didn’t end up working out. So, a couple weeks ago, we had hardwoods laid in the kitchen, laundry room and half bath. Here’s the view into the kitchen with the old floor.

Honestly, I was sad to see the black floors go. But now that we have the light hardwoods in there, it’s so much brighter and we couldn’t be happier with our decision. Now, the house is clean and is staying clean!!!!! This makes me happy, especially since our baby boy will be here soon!
I hope you enjoyed this makeover! This room has always been “off” in our home so I’m very happy that is blends with the rest of the house now. A big thanks to my hubby for working so hard to allow for this and our awesome contractor Joe! He’s been great and “gets” my visions as a designer. Thank you JOE!!
Stay tuned, believe it or not, I have more to show!!! Baby boy’s room was painted over Labor Day weekend and I’m excited to pull something together for his room! Till next time y’all!

Thanks you Mary!!!
So amazing! The fireplace being taken out makes the whole space feel huge! I am loving the light and bright colors in the room.
Thanks so much Emily! I’m so glad I convinced the hubs to removed the fireplace. It was well worth it!
Wow–what an amazing transformation! The new layout is perfect and I love how much brighter it looks. Those lamps are beautiful!
Thank you Sharon! I’m glad you like the layout…. that was the biggest issue with this room and ordering furniture. I’m always so nervous waiting for items to arrive and putting them together. Especially custom furniture that can’t be returned!!!! But, thankfully, it all worked out! And those lamps, right?! Oh my!!! Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate your support.
Wow! What a transformation! It turned out beautiful.
Thanks for stopping by Kathy!!! I’m glad you enjoyed the transformation. I’m so happy it’s done and now we can enjoy it! Hope all your traveling, moving and settling is going well!
This room is SO beautiful!
Thanks again!!! Yes, I’m def in love with this space!!!
So beautiful! I remember you having trouble about where to put the TV and everything looks stunning now! The coffee table is my favorite and I love some of the chippy paint accents.
Oh that dang TV! Yes, LOL, I’m happy with our final decision. Having it on the other wall wouldn’t allow for any type of “good” furniture arrangement. Just too narrow. Thanks for popping over!!
Wow!!! Love it so much Sara! It’s so light and airy. I can’t help but notice a theme developing …love how this room ties in with your kitchen. Beautiful job!!!
Thank you Stephanie!!!! It’s SOOOO much better! The flow of the dining room and kitchen now is the bees knees! The whole house is coming together 🙂 Thank you for your support!
I thought the fireplace picture at Christmas was beautiful too but I love the after with the furniture arrangement and all the natural light streaming in! It looks like such a great room to spend time in!
Yes, Amanda, I can’t get over the difference in this space without that fireplace!!! Thanks for popping over!
Wow! What a huge difference removing the fireplace made! Your living room looks beautiful – I really love the trim on the walls paired with the grey paint, too!
Thanks Emily! Yes, we have been slowly changing all the trim in the house. We love it bigger!
the after! Holy smokes! I love those caramel club chair. I think I need a set 🙂
Thank you thank you!!! Yes, this room was a lot of work and just living in this craziness was enough. These chairs, worth EVERY penny!!! We love them and I feel like they are timeless.
Oh my gosh Sara! I know you have been working on this so hard and so long! It turned out SO GREAT! I can’t even believe how light and airy it looks. That lamp is amazing!
Thanks April. I’m so happy with this space! The house all blends now and that makes me happy! The lamps are my favorite!!!! Such great finds!
Sara……this is beautiful. What a wonderful transformation.
I’m glad you like it!! Thanks for stopping by! I’m so happy it’s DONE!!
So open and airy now! Very pretty for sure. I do love those lamps! Gorgeous!!

Pam
Thanks so much Pam! Sadly, they don’t carry it anymore. I wanted more of them too! Love that rug.
So gorgeous! Where is your rug from? We’ve just started switching over to Repose through the house and need to replace rugs too.
~Shannon
Hi Shannon! Thank you so much! Sorry I’ve been MIA from the blog word, my apologies. The rug is from Target and sadly they don’t carry it anymore. It’s my all time favorite rug!!
